Computers for Literacy Development

Computers for Literacy Development is a one-on-one based tutoring program for students grades 1-10 who are experiencing difficulties in the areas of reading and writing. Students use educational and assistive software to maintain and develop literacy skills, learning strategies as well as enhance their views towards education and learning.

Tutoring sessions are available year round at the Peterborough, Northumberland and Clarington offices.

Cost: $25.00 session

Resource Library

A comprehensive choice of books, videos, journals and articles on Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are available for loan or use at the Center. Staff and volunteers will assist in helping choose the most appropriate material.

Cost : A Provincial or Library membership of $20.00 per year is required for the borrowing of material.

Student Self Advocacy/Education

Group sessions for students in high-school who have Learning Disabilities or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Educational sessions also available to peer tutors. These sessions are focused on teaching the student on how to understand their educational needs, how to ask for help and learning their rights and responsibilities.

Cost: Free/ LDA membership encouraged / donations gratefully accepted.

SOAR (Some Assembly Required)

SOAR is a program for students in grades 7, 8 and 9, developed by the Learning Disability Association of Ontario to encourage self-awareness, how to express ideas and follow directions, and becoming a self-advocate in the learning process and decision making. The program's focus is preparedness for a successful transition to high school, specific to learning disabled students.

Cost: $200 for 10 hours of sessions
