Programs for Parents and Educators

Resource Library

A comprehensive choice of books, videos, journals and articles on Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are available for loan or use at the Center. Staff and volunteers will assist in helping choose the most appropriate material. A Provincial or Library membership of $20.00 per year is required for the borrowing of material.

Advocacy Training

Assistance is provided helping parents become advocates for their children by providing them with information about their rights and responsibilities & help on becoming an effective member of the school program planning team.

Cost: Free/ LDA membership encouraged / Donations gratefully accepted.

Resource Facilitation

Resources are provided to individuals and families about issues relating to Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorder. This could include strategies for coping with behaviour problems, self esteem, stress management, social skills, and coping strategies.

Cost: Free/ LDA membership encouraged / Donations gratefully accepted.

Parent Education Seminars

Educational seminars during the year on a variety of topics relating to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disabilities.

Cost: Varies depending on seminar topic and presenter. Please check our events section regularly.

Power to Achieve

A four-week course designed to assist parents through the maze of sorting out their child’s learning difficulties & becoming effective in their parenting roles.  Topics include:

  • Understanding Learning Disabilities and ADHD and how they manifest themselves;
  • Learning how to work with the school and your teacher;
  • Understanding what an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is;
  • Learning to advocate for your child in the school system;
  • Understanding the assessment process;
  • Learning parenting skills and techniques that can increase your child’s self-esteem.

Cost: $200.00/individual or $300.00/couple

Parent Support Group

A support group designed to allow parents to share their experiences, and ask for assistance in a supportive environment. This group runs at the end of the Parenting your Learning Disabled/ADHD child course.

Newsletter

A Quarterly Newsletter which includes strategies for Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
